Series Statement:

This series follows the activity of puddle jumping and related activities involving water which I use to connect with my son, who is also autistic. It also illustrates how I utilize my familiarity and personal connection with water to better adjust and connect with neurotypical society. As a neurodivergent/autistic individual navigating societal expectations and conforming to “normality” is a continual struggle for me that I mutually share with my son. Therefore, it is my goal to utilize my experiences in life (such as my service time in the United States Coast Guard) and my voice as an artist to expand the public’s perception of what it means to be autistic, demonstrate our abilities and encourage neurodiversity.

There are No Perfect Puddles Project

The There are No Perfect Puddles Project is an interactive installation element of the Puddle Jumping series where the viewer is invited to create their own Puddles using pre-drawn ink transparencies created by the artist. The viewer is invited to interact directly with the transparencies made available surrounding installed light table(s). After the viewer creates their own ink transparency puddles on the light table(s) they can then be mounted on archival paper and signed by the artist to take home with them. This installation is intended to invite the viewer to experience the joy the artist experiences when jumping in puddles with his son and his overall general interaction with water. Additionally, this installation is intended as much as possible to be Accessible to the viewer both in their interaction with the artwork and in the modest pricing in any puddle the viewer creates. Through this project the artist intends for everyone to have access to a unique and affordable piece of art.
