Series Statement:
This series follows the activity of puddle jumping and related activities involving water which I use to connect with my son, who is also autistic. It also illustrates how I utilize my familiarity and personal connection with water to better adjust and connect with neurotypical society. As a neurodivergent/autistic individual navigating societal expectations and conforming to “normality” is a continual struggle for me that I mutually share with my son. Therefore, it is my goal to utilize my experiences in life (such as my service time in the United States Coast Guard) and my voice as an artist to expand the public’s perception of what it means to be autistic, demonstrate our abilities and encourage neurodiversity.
